Ms. Miller's Students Talking Math

A problem solving blog

New Job

February4

So, you may have noticed that our blog doesn’t have any recent activity. I stepped away from the classroom for a year to be a data-educational technology coach at my school. Look for new classes of students and blog activity next year. :-)

Blog Prompt #20

May3

Post a Dear Poly letter and write a reply via comments to a classmate’s letter.

Example:  An excerpt from Barry Lane’s 51 Wacky We-Search Reports

Dear Poly,

I am a right triangle but I would really like to be an equilateral triangle because equilateral triangles are just so cool with their equal sides.  I know that we all should be happy with who we are, but I just can’t stop thinking about it.

Signed,

Right triangle with the wrong attitude

Example response from Barry Lane’s 51 Wacky We-Search Reports (This response would be a comment to a classmates Dear Poly letter)

Dear Right,

You have no reason to be jealous of an equilateral triange.  Your angles are varied which makes you much more interesting to look at.  There was a Greek man named Pythagoras who spent a long time looking at one of your ancestors and figured out that the sum of the square of your two matching sides equaled the square of your hypotenuse.  In fact, equilateral triangles don’t even have a hypotenuse.  Imagine that, life without the long side.  Count your blessings kiddo.  See all the angles.

Later,

Poly
